Two hand-thrown blue ceramic cups on a timber table, soft morning light

Some pots are for looking at. These are for wrapping your hands around on a slow morning or lazy afternoon

Made to be used

These started from the same wedged lump of clay. Thrown on the wheel one after the other so they'd share the same weight and feel without being identical. Midfire stoneware, cone 6 in an electric kiln. Heavy enough to feel solid, light enough to lift without thinking about it.

Double dipped

The colour comes from layering two glazes. A base coat goes on first, then a second dip in a blue-cyan that breaks over the edges and pools in the foot. Every cup comes out slightly different depending on how thick the second coat runs.

Morning ritual

There's something about a cup you made yourself. You know exactly where to hold it. You know the spot on the rim that sits just right. These have earned their place on the verandah table.
