Dugong
Dugong dugon
VulnerableNCA V · EPBC Migratory
The Dugong is one of Moreton Bay's gentle grazers, feeding on the seagrass meadows that grow through its shallow waters. Around Southern Moreton Bay, its survival is closely tied to healthy seagrass, clean water and quiet feeding areas. Moreton Bay provides important foraging habitat for dugongs and sits near the southern edge of their Australian range. Slow-moving and almost entirely dependent on seagrass, the dugong makes the health of the bay visible.
