Named for John White, not for its colour, this small east-coast seahorse clings to seagrass, sponge and soft coral from Queensland's Hervey Bay south through the NSW coast. In SE Queensland, the records are thin but important. Researchers are still piecing together where populations survive, how many remain, and which habitats matter most.
